Okay, so she'd snuck out again. Big deal. She wouldn't get in trouble. From her dad, maybe, but from the rest of Dharma, they could care less.
After all - Horace had been caught drunk near the pylons again.
Brushing hair from her face, Alex carefully slipped out farther into the jungle. She needed to go a bit farther before she decided to move upward.
Once she deemed herself far out enough - just near the pylons, as a matter of fact. She grabbed onto one of the low branches of a tree, pushing herself up into the tree. She climbed higher and higher up into the tree, before laying flat down across a branch.
She had a nice view of the pylons from here, and she could see the other side if any of the Hostiles came out. Yet, she still had a slight view of the Barracks, so she knew if anyone was coming.
Now, to sit and wait.
Her favorite part.

The Pylons did nothing but create an annoying hum every time Richard was near them. He could lift a hand near it and feel the hum, yet when he passed through, it never affected him. They were stupid to think that it would. Stepping from the treeline, he walked near the fence, his eyes looking up towards the top of the large Pylons...until something caught his eye. She was spread out along a tree branch, laying almost catlike against the tree, and he was surprised that she was so bold.
Of course, Richard knew about Ben's daughter. He knew probably more about her than she knew herself. "You know, I've told Horace before to not yet his people go around wandering by the Pylons. Me people can be very territorial. Not to mention it's all ours to begin with."

Her branch her arm had been resting on snapped - her attention had been focused on the Barracks, rather than the pylons - which apparently, a Hostile had just walked through. She glared at him for a moment, mad that he'd found her so quickly. So much for hiding.
"I don't much listen to Horace." She said carefully, moving to swing her legs over the branch, to where she stood on the branch below, but her arms were hooked around the one she'd been laying down again. "And this isn't your Island. I don't see your name on it anywhere." She added, watching him carefully now. She didn't understand how he'd stepped through the pylons.

"So it's yours, then?"
Richard arched his eyebrow at the young girl. "I seem to remember you dropping your boxes full of food and building materials and guns onto the Island. One nearly killed one of my men." He paused, tilting his head. "Just because something doesn't have a name on it, doesn't mean it's free for the taking. We've been here longer than you could imagine." It was the truce that was keeping him from taking Alex. That and Ben, however, something told him that Alex could be a good bargaining chip if needed be.
"Your people are lucky to be alive right now. I suggest you don't give us reason."

"I didn't say it was mine." She said harshly, tapping her fingers against the branch without a care. "And I'm sorry one of your men almost died, but I don't see how this effects me, because I wasn't even here then." Alex said, looking at him with a blank expression.
"Well, good for you. We're not bothering you, so why do you have to keep attacking us?" She asked. "And you're helping my dad do something right? Or he's helping you? Whatever it is you both have going on - why does it have to invovle everyone else?"

He had been listening to the entire conversation, having heard the girl stomp through the jungle, as if she had lead weights attached to her feet.
Now the child that the boy had claimed was before him, with every bit as much insolence in her as he had the day she was claimed. Saved by a simple act of defiance and beginning the battle of wills, by placing him in question with Jacob.
Deliberately allowing his well polished riding boot to snap a small gathering of underbrush, and stand before them. He locked his ice blue eyes on the girl. Words clipped, sharp and with an edge of strong disdain.
"One could ask the same question of your....people. Your lack of understanding will be your downfall, my dear."

Alex's head snapped up at the sound of a twig breaking, looking to see another one of the Hostiles. Peachy. And here she was, stuck up in a tree. Trapped. She stared the new man down for a moment until he spoke.
"Lack of understanding? Really? What's to understand? You attack us - we didn't do jack to you." She muttered, glaring at him now. "Like right now - I've done nothing to you, and I'm on my side of the fence. Unlike both of you." She pointed out.
"So you can either just leave now, or come up in this tree and try to stop me from calling Security on this." She said, holding out the walkie talkie that she had produced from her front pocket.

"We don't attack you, Alex. We were peaceful when your camp first arrived. Your people were the ones to initiate the terms in the Truce." Charles' clipped voice shifted through the air, and Richard only slightly turned his head to acknowledge the young man. He spoke to Alex, and Richard's attention went back on the girl in the tree, tilting his head slightly. "We're not doing anything thing to you." Richard replied as if it was clear as day. "We're watching you. I've seen your people watching us from the fence, too, so don't think we're just being selective. I'm just...curious, is all. You seem very curious about us, so why can't we be curious about you?"
When she threatened them with security, Richard scoffed slightly. "We've done nothing to break the truce. Yes, I've come over to your side. I do quite often. Horace and I have an understanding. A clause, if you will, in the Truce. Only myself and Widmore are allowed to cross into your camp. No other member of my camp will be able to cross. We've broken nothing in the Truce, so calling Security would both just simply frustrate them, and it would instantly make them wonder why you're out this close to the Pylons."
"And besides," Richard continued. "I need to speak to Horace anyway. The boar are migrating into your territory. We need to be able to hunt them without your people shooting at us."

"How do you know my name?" She asked quickly, turning back to Richard. She hadn't told him her name, and it made her wonder how he knew her name. Did he really watch everything? Then he talked about being curious and she chewed on her lip - yes, she was curious, but at least she didn't watch them enough to know names.
She shifted her weigh on the branch, which suddenly sank several feet, causing her to lose her grip on the branch. The walkie dropped from her hands, shattering to pieces on the ground below as she struggled to grab back onto the branch she'd been hanging on before.
"Yes, well, there are obvious reasons as to why we shoot at you." She said, hanging from the branch now, feet swinging in the air.

He sensed his patience growing thinner by the moment, and with a glance at Richard, as the girl hung above them, he stepped away from the free-fall zone.
"Impetuous little mite of a girl!" Tucking back his Garamon rifle, behind his shoulder. " Perhaps the 'obvious reason' you are all feeling such fear is your true status of inferiority."
Never trust them. They were outsiders. They were vermin.

"Impetuous little mite of a girl!"
Richard turned his head slightly to the side to regard Charles as he spoke to Alex, venom spewing from the young boy's mouth. Of course, this was the exact reason why Richard was so against Widmore taking any sort of a ruling over the Island. Of course, Jacob had some sort of plan, Richard surmised, because Widmore wasn't dead. However, the Island had dropped Benjamin right into his path, as it were, and Richard hadn't ignored that fact.
It didn't help that Charles hardly listened to Richard anymore, anyway, but Richard had come to overlook this small task. If he didn't want Richard's guidance, then he'd pay the prince. Of course, he had no control over the leader of the Island in the end, all he did was guide.
"Charles." The man's name was said evenly before he looked over at Alex. "You really should consider your place with them. Do you really think you're safe with them?" he said, motioning with his head over her shoulder towards the barracks. "Safe with a leader who gets drunk and throws dynamite at a sonic fence? Someone with a death wish? He's going to lead you all to a path of destruction because of his own arrogance and stupidity. We're not savages, Alex. Far from it. We're simply trying to correct what's wrong here, and in the end, you'll be a lot better off if you were on our side."
